Can Jon Jones Defeat Rampage Jackson?
Fishing experts also following MMA are chomping at the bit to see UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado on September 24, 2011, as it will be the first time the UFC has returned to Denver since 1995. The first Mile High City card in nearly 16 years is headlined by a UFC betting Light Heavyweight fight, featuring current champion Jon Jones and Rampage Jackson. This fight features a young hot shot taking on a grizzled veteran nearing the end of his career. With Rampage set to retire before he turns 35, can he leave the octagon on September 24th the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion?
Entering the octagon in less than two weeks time, Jon Jones is looking to become the Light Heavyweight version of Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. That is to say, Jones is hoping his first Light Heavyweight title reign is his only title reign, as he takes on all challengers. At the same time, Rampage Jackson, will be looking to take the Light Heavyweight Championship from Jon Jones, and become a two time Light Heavyweight Champion.
On paper, this fight is perfect for both fighters, as their impressive arsenals allow them to have the potential to put on a fight of the year caliber matchup. If this were professional wrestling rather then MMA and we were the head booker, we would have Jones go over by way of knockout in this fight, as it will keep him looking strong. Comparable to legendary WCW wrestler Goldberg, Jon Jones is a fighter that needs to be built up like a monster.
Conversely, Rampage Jackson, similar to The Rock, does not need a title to help him stay popular amongst the fans. If Jackson is able to defeat Jones, Jones will have a difficult time regaining his momentum, as he has literally won the audiences over by decimating his opponents.
