UFC 137 Previews

On Saturday October 29, 2011 Canadian Welterweight Champion and UFC poster boy George St. Pierre returns to the octagon, as he takes on challenger Carlos Condit for the Welterweight Championship in Las Vegas. In one of the most intriguing UFC cards in recent memory, bookie software enthusiasts have the opportunity to see St. Pierre and former challenger Nick Diaz on the same card. Here is a preview of the upcoming UFC PPV event UFC 137.

In what was supposed to be a unification bout featuring UFC Welterweight Champion George St. Pierre and Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz, turned into GSP vs. Carlos Condit after Nick Diaz ego ruined his once in a lifetime opportunity. Essentially, in the weeks leading up to the GSP v Diaz Welterweight bout, the duo had to take part in a sports betting media tour to promote the event. However, Nick Diaz being Nick Diaz decided he would rather train and skip the media tour. As a result, UFC boss Dana White decided that Diaz would switch spots with Carlos Condit on the card.

Now, GSP will be facing Carlos Condit for his title, while Nick Diaz faces the legendary BJ Penn in the co-main event. On paper, neither new fight is as appetizing to fight fans as a GSP v Diaz encounter would have been. Nevertheless, this is what we fight fans are stuck with.

In the main event between GSP and Condit, Condit is given little to no chance at defeating the current Welterweight Champion. The one saving grace for Condit is the fact that if he fights a safe fight, he may be able to go the entire five rounds with the champion. Throughout his last six fights, GSP has gone to decision every single time, but should have put away his opponents. When he takes on Condit, fans are hoping GSP can finally put an opponent away.
